Swimming Lessons
Improvers - Did you know that less than 2% of the UK population can swim a mile?
Thinking of swimming lessons? Do more than think. Book your swimming lessons today!!!
I am really fearful of the water. At the moment you probably won't believe us but you can overcome your fear a lot easier than you think. If you have tried traditional swimming lessons with other organisations you have probably found they don't take your fear very seriously or expect you to just be able to do it simply because they say you should. We don't work that way. Most of us are ex water phobic ourselves. It is not irrational, cowardly or something to be ignored, it is very real and distressing and many many people experience it when they first have swimming lessons. Do you feel you have been that way so long it is too late to do something about? Gay was in her late forties before confronting her fear, Irene some years older. So as qualified instructors who were once in your shoes, trust us when we say - You CAN overcome this and learn to enjoy your swimming lessons.
I've had loads of swimming lessons but I still can't swim Nothing new there. You'd be surprised how many people take swimming lessons and don't succeed. They leave it a few years and book more lessons. Same again. If something is not working for you, ask the question why not and what will be different this time. In our case, our beliefs are born from the fact that every instructor listed here was dissatisfied with traditional swimming methods when they took lessons themselves. Although ASA trained, we do not use ASA methods as we find that for the majority of the population, they simply don't work well. Lessons with us involve learning to be comfortable and balanced in the water and we haven't had a failure yet!
I'm not frightened but I don't want to put my face in. You are clearly not comfortable in the water if you are nervous of putting your face in. There will be a few of you now loudly proclaiming you are NOT nervous or frightened, you just don't want to do it. That's fine but whilst you may be allowed to take tradition swimming lessons and not put your face in, we have to say that our aim will be to overcome this with you, no matter how long it takes. It is simply not safe to allow some-one to think they are safe in the water when they may potentially panic in am emergency. Safety is an important consideration when swimming but taking lessons with us means we work on your balance in the water and this we can't do if your head is always at an unnatural angle trying to avoid your face getting wet. If this is an issue preventing you taking swimming lessons, please contact us and we can have a chat on the phone. We often find that those who declare they are actually fearful of putting their face in, overcome this quicker than those that feel they simply don't want to. Note from Gay: "I spent 2 whole years trying to find a way of swimming before I gave up and accepted I had to get my face wet. I laugh about it now but it was a major issue at the time". Last year I learned to dive!
I can already swim but only a few strokes Sometimes this is a confidence issue, sometimes the swimming lessons you have already taken were not helpful or you may never have had professional lessons. Often though, in fact more often than not, it is a question of balance in the water. All these are easily dealt with.
I can't swim very far - my legs always sink. This is something we hear a lot, especially from men. Again many reasons for this, all correctable, but one of the main reasons is body composition. As most swimming lessons don't address the subject of balance, sinkers just continue to struggle often trying to overcome the problem by improving stamina. Take you swimming lessons with us and you soon see what a difference it makes learning the proper balance in the water.
I am way too old to swimming lessons. No no no no no! We've had people over 80 come to us for swimming lessons. Remember those niggly aches and pains the doctor says are old age creeping up? Well guess what - one of the best things to keep it at bay is ...... yes you've guessed it - swimming! Both Irene and I suffer with arthritis so we now how it feels and what swimming can do to help. OK I could go on but you get the message! No more excuses. You are never too old for SWIMMING LESSONS!
Swimming Lessons for ImproversMuch of this page is dedicated to offering swimming lessons to non-swimmers or those who can swim very little. This is largely because for improver to see what is offered to beginners is not off-putting but often pictures of stronger swimmers and talk of more complex swimming drills can frighten the life out of a non-swimmer. However, that doesn't mean we don't get a great deal of satisfaction teaching our innovative balance techniques to people that want improve their stroke, whether they are competitive swimmers or recreational swimmers.
